Fees and Rebates

Melbourne Psychologist Cost

At The Inner Collective, we believe that access to high-quality psychological care should be as seamless as possible. We are transparent about our fees and available rebates, ensuring you can make informed decisions about your mental health care.

Consultation Fees

Our session fees reflect the specialist care provided by our experienced psychologists. They are below the recommended standard fee of $311 by the professional peak body, Australian Psychological Society (APS):

  • Clinical Psychologist – $250 per standard 50-minute session

  • General Psychologist – $205 per standard 50-minute session

  • Provisional Psychologist, or counsellor - $120 per standard 50-minute session

Appointments from 6pm and on Saturdays incur an additional $20 fee.

Medicare Rebates

If you have a Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) from your GP, psychiatrist, or paediatrician, you may be eligible for Medicare rebates:

  • Clinical Psychologist – Rebate of $141.85 per session

  • General Psychologist – Rebate of $96.65 per session

  • Provisional Psychologist - Does not attract a rebate

Medicare provides rebates for up to 10 sessions per calendar year under the Better Access Initiative. After six sessions, a review with your GP is required to access the remaining four.

Out-of-Pocket Costs

After claiming your Medicare rebate, the out-of-pocket cost per session is:

  • Clinical Psychologist – approximately $108.15 per session

  • General Psychologist – approximately $108.35 per session

These costs may vary slightly depending on additional surcharges for after-hours appointments.

Private Health Insurance Rebates

If you have private health insurance with extras cover, you may be eligible for a rebate on psychological services. The rebate amount and eligibility criteria vary between providers, so we recommend checking directly with your health fund.

National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS)

We offer therapy services for self-managed NDIS participants. If you’re accessing psychology through the NDIS, you may be able to claim the full cost of your sessions under your plan.

Cancellation Policy

To ensure we can offer appointments to those in need, we require at least 48 hours' notice for cancellations or reschedules.

  • Cancellations with less than 48 hours' notice will be charged half of the session fee.

  • Medicare and private health insurance do not cover missed appointments.

If you are unable to attend, please notify us as soon as possible to avoid charges.

Payment Methods

Payment is required at the time of your appointment. We accept:

✔ EFTPOS
✔ Credit card (Visa & Mastercard)
✔ BPAY

We do not accept American Express or Diners Club.

How to Access a Mental Health Care Plan

If you wish to claim Medicare rebates, you’ll need a Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) from your GP. Here’s how to get one:

  1. Book a long consultation with your GP and discuss your mental health concerns.

  2. If your GP determines you are eligible, they will prepare an MHCP and refer you to a psychologist.

  3. Send your referral letter and MHCP before your first appointment at The Inner Collective, and we can process your Medicare rebate for you.

Commitment to Accessibility

At The Inner Collective, we believe that mental health care should be accessible to everyone. If you are experiencing financial hardship, please discuss your situation with our team. We offer a limited number of low-cost appointments to support individuals facing financial challenges, with fees ranging from $50 to $80 per session, depending on the psychologist.

For any further inquiries or to discuss your specific needs, please contact our friendly reception staff. We are here to assist you on your journey towards improved mental health and well-being.
